Initiation

Welcome and greetings. If blogging is new, don't worry, it's not as scary as it might appear. This is simply a place for you to come and comment on and express your views on worship. The hope is that through this community dialogue we will continue to explore how we connect with God individually, yet within a community setting. If you wish to become a member so you can post your ideas and not just comment on others' then email me: will@wchullinger.com

Otherwise, let the blogging begin, first topic. Defining worship - outside of music, what is worship. My take is in response to our scripture:

Romans 12:1
[ Living Sacrifices ] Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual [ Or reasonable] act of worship.

Comments are encouraged, otherwise it's just people reading what someone has to say and that is never as much fun.

My definition of Worship is simplistic, but hopefully that will hold the beauty behind it.

Worship to me is our honest response without reservation to God's love.

here's my take on worship, what we think worship is, and how we're all probably wrong...and i'm probably way off myself, but this is how i'm feeling right now.

i think churches need to start over, when it come to the way they teach worship. a person bowing before "the king" or shouting to the Lord seems very typical of humans: its self-demeaning and/or doesn't actually accomplish anything. on a majority, christians compare how they worship/honor God to the way people respond to pop stars or kings of this earth. even at genesis we've said "if people response to Michael Jackson in certain way" we should be able to "show them up" in the way we praise our God, who is actually deserving of it. now, that's a great example of how smooth Satan is at distracting us, but from the little i know of God, that just seems so out of character for the way He'd want us act, especially towards him.

worshiping can be defined as showing respect, honoring, and uplifting the name of whatever is being worshiped.

we can do all those things for God on an everyday basis. but because we screw-up every single day, our human minds tell us we have to make-up for the stuff we've done wrong and really go all out for God. protestant sunday has become our equivalent of going to confessional.

i think we all mess it up and should just focus on showing people how to worship their Creator Mon-Sun, not just Sun. i think genesis is making a real effort to break down alot of old school church thinking, but i just dont see how putting such a focus on sunday "musical worship" is helpful. stressing every week that this is the moment they are going to connect with God and its up to us to take them there...it just seems like we're once again missing the huge red target God has set in place just for us.

anyways. i hope this is clear and doesn't offend anyone. its not meant to. i think that within the past couple years there's been an increasing focus on worship and some of community feeling has left, and i think from the stage, we can help.

honestly i have no solutions for whatever issues i've brought up. maybe they're just my feelings. i would love the feedback, though.

take care, everyone.
